BACK TO SOURCE

At Sacred Earth Activism, we are dedicated to coordinating sacred actions that rekindle our sacred relationship with water. We believe in honouring and acknowledging that rivers are not mere geographical features but living entities, each entitled to their own rights and deserving of protection.

Historically, our ancestors held our rivers in the highest reverence. They offered the most precious items as gifts to invite the blessings of these life-giving waterways. Unfortunately, in modern times, our rivers have become receptacles for our waste, sewage, and runoff from agricultural fields.

The situation today is dire. Our waters are not only vital for sustaining life, but they also form the cornerstone of our wider environment. Yet, they are facing an escalating ecological crisis and biodiversity loss due to pollution and contamination.

A Growing Crisis in Our Rivers

Recent official figures reveal that more than 384,000 discharges of raw sewage were reported by water companies across England and Wales in 2022. This dire situation has been strongly condemned by organisations such as the Rivers Trust, as it poses a grave threat to both the environment and human health. Furthermore, there are concerns that the actual scale of sewage discharges may be even greater than reported.

Additionally, certain water firms are currently under investigation for alleged illegal dumping of sewage, and there are indications that the government and regulatory bodies may have allowed firms to discharge raw sewage more frequently than permitted by law.

Our Vision for Sacred Rivers

Our mission is clear: we intend to restore our sacred relationship with water and honour the intrinsic rights of rivers to flow freely, unpolluted, and unpoisoned. Today, more than ever, we recognise the urgency of this endeavor. Not only are we losing access to safe water, but the broader environment is also suffering from the consequences of polluted rivers and waterways.

We invite all those who share our commitment to join us in this sacred journey. Together, let us gather in groups and participate in our ceremonies and sacred actions at our local rivers. By doing so, we reestablish our sacred connection with water and stand in solidarity with rivers as living entities with their own rights. It is our solemn duty to protect them, allowing them to flow freely and unspoiled for generations to come.
