Council of All Beings

As the world prepares for COP30 in Belém, we invite you to join a Council of All Beings focused on the voices of the more-than-human at this turning point for the planet.

In this ceremonial gathering we will step aside from our human identities and allow the beings of Earth – plants, rivers, stones, winds, animals, ancestors – to speak through us. Together we will listen for what the living world is asking as global leaders meet to discuss our collective future.

The Council of All Beings asks us to embody non-human (plants, animals, moon, rivers or mountains) sensibilities as much as possible. The idea is to change our perspective, to feel their pain, anger, fear and concerns, and give voice to them.

Given that much of those involved in COP30 will spend a lot of time in their heads, our work during this time will be to strengthen the threads that connect us to the Earth, and to centre its voices. It shows we care, and this caring helps us move beyond anger and pain to a feeling of interconnectedness (or “inter-being” as Thich Nhat Hanh called it). This feeling ultimately encourages us to take heart-centred action in order to create positive change.

The Council of All Beings concept was born out of, and sits within the wider framework of, Joanna Macy’s The Work That Reconnects (WTR).All are welcome to take part, whether you are experienced in council work or simply feel called to listen.

This event is part of Sacred Earth Activism’s COP30 Spirits of the Earth Summit, a ceremonial holding devoted to bringing forward the voices of the more-than-human world during COP30.

Important: This is an interactive event and all who attend are there to take part - not for simply spectating or watching. This event will not be recorded.
